Parkinson’s disease is a progressive neurological condition caused by the gradual loss of dopamine-producing cells in the brain - dopamine being essential for smooth movement. It affects around 145,000 people in the UK. Tremors (involuntary shaking) are its hallmark, but stiffness, slowed movement, and sleep disturbance are also common.
Symptoms
Tremor or shaking, usually in the hands, most noticeable at rest.
Stiff muscles and slowed, deliberate movements.
Balance and coordination problems.
Trouble with fine motor tasks like writing or buttoning clothes.
If you are suffering from any of these symptoms, you may be suffering from arthritis. Please speak with your GP to find out more.
Treatment Options
Core therapy relies on dopamine-replacing drugs such as levodopa. There’s currently no cure, but CBPMs are being studied for relief of both motor and non-motor symptoms.
Patients often find THC can reduce tremor severity, muscle rigidity, and sleep problems, while CBD may support mood, reduce anxiety, and offer neuroprotective effects that promote overall wellbeing.
